Tri-Sigma's Founders made such a corporation possible. They are Margaret Batten, Louise Davis, Martha Trent Featherston,
Isabella Merrick, Sallie Michie, Lelia Scott, Elizabeth Watkins, and Lucy Wright.
Sigma Sigma Sigma's eight founding sisters formed a special friendship at the Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville,
Virginia. This is where Lucy Wright and Lelia Scott held the first meetings of the S.S.S. club in 1897. The founding of Sigma
Sigma Sigma was announced on April 20, 1898. Thus came the beginnings of a 90,000+ Sisterhood.

Sigma Sigma Sigma promotes a perpetual bond of friendship, develops strong womanly character, and inspires high standards
of ethical conduct.
In conjunction with the formation of this Mission, we reaffirm our commitment to the Sigma Sigma Sigma Declaration of Principles.
These Principles elaborate on the three basic tenets, which are the reasons for our existence as a Sisterhood.

The Declaration of Principles
The Declaration of Principles is the cornerstone of our Order. We consider these our fundamental truths, and they have guided
us as Sigma's since our Sorority was established in 1898. Our Sisterhood brings together a culturally diverse group of individuals
with special talents, opinions and ideas.

-Tri Sigma prepares the individual for life long democratic participation.
-Rewards scholastic attainment.
